The First Pattern™: A Universal Four-Stage
Model That Converts Uncertainty Into Structure

A simple, testable framework for understanding how information and energy stabilize, integrate, and propagate across physics, biology, human behavior and computation & Ai. This universal visual map shows that the same underlying geometry drives the emergence of atoms, cells, minds and machines.

The Origin Four: A Universal Four-Stage Cycle

At the heart of The First Pattern is the Origin Four, a cycle that describes how all systems move from potential to expression. Each stage reflects a fundamental human need, labeled as information operators working together to stabilize and organize uncertainty:

  • Potential – the seed state, where inward focus holds possibilities before they are chosen.
  • Selection – the meeting point between system and environment, where certain possibilities are captured and others released.
  • Transformation – the fusion of parts into a coherent whole, where new structures emerge.
  • Deployment – the outward expression of stability, allowing information, energy, or behavior to propagate.

This four-stage process is simple, testable, and recursive. Whether in computation, physics, human behavior or biology, the same underlying logic repeats: systems form, stabilize, and renew themselves through the Origin Four.

The Origin Four is not a flow chart but a universal template: four positions that any system must pass through or inhabit to stabilize and propagate. Later, we will see how these positions connect into continuous cycles of information and energy.

The Information Operators

At the core of The First Pattern are four information operators. They define how systems form, stabilize, and propagate: exploring or binding, inward or outward.

  • E_in — Explore Inward: probing into possibilities within, refining focus, and searching for hidden options.

  • B_in — Bind Inward: centering and consolidating, holding parts together into a stable whole.

  • B_out — Bind Outward: linking outward, forming commitments, and anchoring connections beyond the self.

  • E_out — Explore Outward: branching outward, testing, and extending into new territory.

Together, these four create the structural loop of The First Pattern. They show how systems move from potential to expression — first consolidating inward, then extending outward — and why every process has both a stabilizing and expansive side.

Two Complementary Loops: Information and Energy

Information Emergence Cycle

While the Origin Four shows the four stages of stabilization, the Information Emergence Cycle reveals how those stages connect into a continuous loop. Systems begin in Potential, move into Selection, undergo Transformation, and then Deploy outward. This cycle repeats as information feeds back into new potentials, creating an ongoing rhythm of cause and effect. It explains how ideas, organisms, and structures emerge, stabilize, and renew across domains from physics to psychology.

Energy Integration Loop

The Energy Integration Loop complements the flow of information by describing how energy stabilizes through splitting and merging. When energy grows unstable, it divides into parts; through interaction, those parts re-combine into a stronger, more coherent whole. Unlike the Information cycle, which is directional, the Energy loop can begin at any quadrant and move in multiple directions. This captures the dynamics of resonance, rhythm, and reinforcement — the hidden process by which systems recover balance and gain strength.

The Energy Operators

At the foundation of The First Pattern are not only information operators but also four complementary energy operators. These capture the deeper forces that drive how systems stabilize, align, and evolve. They mirror Carl Jung’s psychological functions but are reframed here with more direct, universal terms:

  • N — Intuition (Abstract): the search for patterns, possibilities, and unseen connections.
  • T — Thinking (Structure): evaluating truth, consistency, and logical order
  • F — Feeling (Alignment): weighing values, relationships, and harmony.
  • S — Sensing (Concrete): grounding in immediate reality, data, and direct experience.

Together, these four form the energetic “compass” that interacts with the information cycle. Where the information operators show how systems move, the energy operators explain why certain moves stabilize or dissolve. This dual architecture is what gives The First Pattern its depth: information provides the scaffolding, and energy provides the pulse that animates it.
